Picture-It: A digital tool to support living with autism

"Picture-It: A digital tool to support living with autism" is the fifth in a series that describes design research projects carried out by the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art in partnership with autism charity the Kingwood Trust, which provides support and accommodation for adults with autism. The overall aim of the work is to improve the everyday experiences of those with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) through better understanding of their needs, aspirations and physical environment.

Picture-It explores the development of a digital tool to help support staff at the Kingwood Trust to capture and share positive experiences in the lives of the adults with autism they support.

Inclusive Fitness Coalition

President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) launches the national Commit to Inclusion campaign.

The National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability, the American Association on Health and Disability, and the Center on Disability at the Public Health Institute are joining the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) today to launch the national Commit to Inclusion campaign. The goal of the campaign is to encourage individuals, organizations and key stakeholders to help build healthy, inclusive communities.

New publication available today, October 1, the International Day of Older Persons

HelpAge International's Global AgeWatch Index ranks countries by how well their ageing populations are faring. It is based on four domains that are key enablers of older people's wellbeing: income, health, capability and enabling environment.

The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded a 2014 Art Works grant to conduct a new initiative, Designing for People, User/Experts in Schools of Design.  This project builds on 14 years of IHCD’s Access to Design Professions and knits the project into IHCD’s commitment to engaging user/experts.

The Design Council (UK) has created the Inclusive Design Hub for the built environment. It covers buildings and outdoor spaces, in all phases of development including planning, design and construction, right through to the management of those buildings and places. It is a collection of resources and we do not promote the use of one over the other.
