Rhode Island Celebrates 20 Years of the ADA

On Friday, July 23 from 1-4 PM, Department of Administration at Capitol Hill, Atrium Level will be the site for the 2010 ADA Celebration for Rhode Island. Part of a national effort to recognize and commemorate this vital Law, the RI ADA Celebration will include a Citation from Governor Carcieri, commentary from RI State Disability Agency heads, the ADA National Network video shown on You Tube introduced by Congressman James Langevin, an ADA Trivia quiz and several special presentations.

The Keynote speech by Leo Canuel, Executive Director of PARI, as well as the ‘Get Out the Vote’ presentation by RI Disability Vote Project will focus on the strenghts of the community of people with disabilities. Hamilton/RI Relay, Rhodes to Independence and Sorenson Communications will all stress various aspects of independence and opportunity gained personally, in the workplace, in the political arena and in society at large as related to ADA. Corliss Institute, Inc. will present an ‘ADA Trivia Power Point and later work with community advocates to relate stories from the community - “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Rally…”
