Karen Murray joins Adaptive Environments after nearly ten years of working in the Independent Living and disability rights movements. Together with Service Dog Ali, they are the newest members of the DBTAC-New England ADA Center team. As an information Specialist, she provides technical Assistance and training on the ADA to the public.
Karen graduated from Regis College (in Weston, MA) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and German and later received her Master of Divinity degree from Weston Jesuit School of Theology. Karen is a wheelchair user and person with a life-long disability. She is deeply committed to the efforts that will make inclusion, and equality of opportunity a reality for persons with disabilities in all aspects of society. She spends her time away from Adaptive Environments working to make these a greater reality in religious and faith communities where she educates others on the needs of persons with disabilities, as well as the contribution they can make to their communities, society and the world.
Ali is a beautiful seven year old Golden Retriever and has been working with Karen for over five years. Trained at NEADS (National Education for Assistance Dogs Services) in Princeton, MA, Ali loves to fetch objects, open doors, press elevator buttons and turn light switches on and off. She loves people, food, snoozing and her many, many stuffed animals. Ali is a hard worker and loves to help out. She could also be called the friendliest Service Dog in the World!
