What is assistive technology?
Device or software that substitutes for or enhances the function of some impaired ability. Sometimes referred to as Adaptive Technology. (See: section508.nasa.gov/glossary.htm

As defined by the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, the term refers to "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities." screen readers and magnifiers, voice synthesizers, closed captioning, alternative keyboards, voice input software, Braille printers, and other special software and equipment that makes information devices more accessible are all examples of assistive technology.
