Have International Dreams? Scholarships Available for People with Disabilities Residing in the Greater Boston Area…Follow Your Dreams!

Calling all Greater Boston Area youth or adults with disabilities! If you have ever thought about studying or volunteering abroad or participating in an international cross-cultural exchange program, now is your opportunity to receive a scholarship to help your dream become reality.

Individuals with disabilities from the Greater Boston Area who apply and are accepted to participate in an international exchange program offered by any of several organizations, colleges and universities, may be eligible for a World of Options Scholarship between $1000-$2000. The list is also available on the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) web site at www.miusa.org/expo/index.html.

Here is how it works. You apply and are accepted into an international program offered by one of the participating organizations. The organization will then complete an application for the World of Options Scholarship and submit it to NCDE. If accepted, the organization will be granted $500-$1000 on your behalf. They will then match the scholarship and give that total amount ($1000 - $2000) to you for program fees, airfare or other costs that would ordinarily be your responsibility.

Established in 1995, the NCDE is managed by Mobility International USA (MIUSA) and sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. The NCDE strives to increase the participation of people with disabilities in the full range of international exchange opportunities by providing free information and referrals to individuals about international exchange opportunities. NCDE staff members are also available to troubleshoot with individuals and exchange organizations as they plan and prepare for the exchange experience.

These scholarships are made available through generous donations from the Boston Globe Foundation. To find out more, contact the participating exchange programs attached or listed on the web at www.miusa.org/expo/index.html.
