news | events calendar Universal Design Conferences in JapanAdaptive Environments collaborated in the creation of International Conference for Universal Design in Japan 2002, 11.30 to 12.04, the first international UD conference to be held in Japan. The port city of Yokahama event attracted approximately 500 global participants to focus on the theme "for all, for everybody" and consider the state of the art of universal design across all of the design disciplines from urban design to information design. His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito was the patron of the event. There were 29 corporate sponsors including Sony, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Fujifilm, and Fujitsu. Adaptive Environments participated in six sessions including the opening keynote. The event culminated in the announcement of an International Universal Design Declaration. On December 5th, a one-day symposium was held in the Kochi prefecture on the West coast of Japan. This fourth Kochi Prefecture Universal Design Symposium was titled Renewal of the City & Its Methodology. Valerie offered the keynote as Elaine Ostroff had done in 1998. Kochi Prefecture Governor Hashimoto and the Kochi City Mayor participated on the respondent panel. [ International Universal Design Declaration ] |
