Stacy Hart, an ADA Trainer, Information and Outreach Specialist for IHCD's New England ADA Center sees her work here as a continuation of making our communities more accessible and inclusive of everyone. Stacy notes that everyone deserves access to the same safety net and has protections from disability-related discrimination under the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act and Section 508. This includes people who are addicted to alcohol and people in recovery from the use of drugs. She provides training on the ADA including but not limited to employment and municipal obligations, emergency management, Section 504, state building code, and topical issues such as COVID-19, healthcare access, and people in recovery.

Stacy also work on IHCD consulting project. In one of her most recent projects working with the Department of Labor to improve access to unemployment benefits for all diverse communities, Stacy was able to share that BIPOC communities, immigrants, the working poor, and people with disabilities were not receiving benefits that they were entitled to and recommend potential solutions.

Previously at Boston Center for Independent Living, Stacy worked with youth and adults with disabilities from diverse backgrounds achieve their education and independent living goals.  She specialized in explaining the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), helping parents through the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, and assisted with transition services for high school students.

Originally from Kansas (Kansas State motto, "To the stars through difficulty"), Stacy moved to Boston and received a master's degree in organizational and corporate communications from Emerson College.  The purpose of communication is not to speak but to listen.

In her free time, Stacy enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris; two children, Stephen and Ruth; and Australian Shepherd, Carly and as such is passionate about inclusive parental rights processes, health care, public education, transportation, playgrounds and trails.
